Texture is one of the seven elements of art, and is perhaps the most telling (and maybe underappreciated) aspect of original paintings.
Our new show “On the Surface” features monumental palette knife paintings by James Pringle Cook next to gallery favorite Judith Mackey, and Wichita native Hugh Greer. All three specialize in painting the Kansas landscape, but their approach to the painted surface is very different. From Cook’s frenzied impasto technique to Greer’s exactingly smoothe canvas to Mackey’s delightful blended skies, this exhibit showcases how differently artists use paint as a material. Come see their different approaches to the painted surface at SouthWind this autumn!
