Van Liew, Lois
Lois VanLiew graduated from KU in 1960 with a bachelor’s degree in eduation. While at KU, Lois was a painting student of one of Kansas’ most recognized painters, Robert Sudlow. Lois grew up living near the campus in Lawrence and has memories of KU as the playground of her youth, as well as her college venue. She was elected to Delta Phi Delta (art) and Pi Lambda Theta (education) at KU in 1960. After she married, Lois and her husband and the couple’s two daughters lived in Milwaukee, Wis., where Lois was an active studio artist, exhibiting her work locally and nationally. In 2004, Lois moved back to Kansas to be near family, she says, and “to reconnect with the prairie sun.”
